Change the world

All prospective undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students wishing to study at Nelson Mandela University in 2023 are invited to apply online.

To apply, you will need:

  • PC/Laptop/Tablet or cell phone
  • Valid Email account
  • A copy of your ID/passport number
  • A copy of your certified school results (Grade 11 final results or your Grade 12 June/September results)
  • Copies of ALL supporting documents that are either scanned and saved as PDFs or uploaded as images from your device. Please remember to include your student number or ID number on all documents you submit.

How to calculate your Applicant Score (AS):

  • When researching the requirements for the qualification you are interested in, look-up the Applicant Score (AS) as well as any required subjects and % pass you need.
  • Applicant Scores may differ depending on whether you took Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy or Technical Maths at school.
  • Applicant Scores are calculated using six subjects and it is important to note that Life Orientation is excluded (except in the case listed below).
  • Write down each of your Grade 12 subjects and each of the most recent percentages achieved in each subject.
  • You need to include the results for the following three compulsory subjects:
Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy or Technical Maths
    1st Additional Language
    Home Language
  • For applicants with seven Grade 12 NSC subjects, the applicant score is calculated by adding all the percentages for the six 20-credit subjects (of which Life Orientation is excluded as it is a 10-credit subject) in order to get a score out of 600.
  • For applicants with eight or more Grade 12 NSC subjects, the applicant score is calculated as follows: Add the percentages achieved for the three compulsory subjects, plus the percentage/s for any subject/s required by the programme, plus the percentages for the next highest subjects, to a maximum of 6 subjects.
  • For applicants from quintiles 1 to 3 schools who achieve 50% or higher for Life Orientation, 7 points are added to their score out of 600 in order to calculate their final applicant score.
  • Compare your applicant score and subject requirements to the minimum needed for the qualification you are interested in applying for. If you do not meet the applicant score and subject requirements, you will have to consider another qualification that you do qualify for.

Provisional and Final acceptance will also be communicated via SMS and via email, therefore ensure that your details are correct and up to date.
